Chamber Music Coaching
Ensemble Coaching
Charlotte has enormous experience as a chamber music coach and offers coaching to advanced ensembles preparing for recitals or who just want to build repertoire. She helps ensembles in understanding the style and interpretation of the music being studied as well as supporting them in building good rehearsal skills and helping them understand their own role within the ensemble
Charlotte has a real talent to see how the music is constructed and to help each player understand how they fit into the bigger picture. She taught us all about rehearsal technique and we were so inspired we wanted to rehearse for hours afterwards! She has an incredible ability to teach people to teach themselves.
Ashley Fripp, pianist GSMD
Charlotte helped us enormously with a very tricky Schostakovich quartet. She was wonderfully inspiring, very encouraging and had a wealth of experience to draw on. Being a pianist, she wasn’t restricted by the limitations of the instruments and challenged us to play well regardless of the technical difficulties we were dealing with. She also got inside the dynamics of the group and helped us gel as a quartet, which was invaluable!

Duo Coaching
Charlotte offers coaching to advanced students, both instrumentalists and singers, who want to prepare for a recital. Charlotte works with the duo helping them to build good rehearsal skills and how to understand the music in its entirety. and also if necessary, helping musicians deal with performance nerves, she is instrumental in building their confidence in giving a high quality performance.
I loved my lessons with Charlotte because she focused on what I needed as a musician – phrasing, how to listen and overall musicianship. She drew out the chamber musician in me. Louisa Tuck, principal cellist, Northern Sinfonia

Chamber Music International
Charlotte was the Founder and Artistic Director of Chamber Music International, a highly successful one week annual summer course that ran from 2000-2008. It was designed for advanced chamber musicians and composers to study intensively at an exceptionally high level. From its very first year, the ethos was to provide a safe, non-competitive and co-operative environment for learning. CMI had a holistic approach that embraced disciplines outside music (Tai Chi, Yoga and Feldenkrais) and wider musicianship skills (Improvisation and Performance Skills) in order to support students in reaching their full potential as musicians. It sadly ended due to lack of funding in 2008. As the Founder and Artistic Director of Chamber Music International, (Patron Sir Simon Rattle: “a stimulating and visionary course – I think it’s wonderful!”), she has coached chamber ensembles of advanced, talented young musicians many of whom have gone on to successful performing careers and has headed a team of tutors each of whom is also a performer or composer with an international reputation.
Sir Simon Rattle, patron, said of Chamber Music International:
